Finance ministers pass the buck on climate funding

The question of how the EU and other industrialised nations should fund climate mitigation and adaptation measures in developing countries as part of a post-Kyoto deal was left unresolved following a meeting of finance ministers in Brussels on Tuesday.

Progress on the financing debate had been expected at the meeting, after environment ministers left a number of funding options open for further discussion at their meeting last week (EE 03/03/09).
