Commission tells ICT sector to set emission goals

By 2010 Europe's information and communication technology (ICT) sector must set itself "ambitious targets" for reducing carbon emissions and energy consumption, according to plans outlined in a European commission policy paper on Thursday.

The commission will propose a voluntary agreement with the sector in the second half of this year, according to the policy paper. Under the agreement the ICT sector would have to adopt targets and roadmaps by the end of 2010 and report annually on its progress.
