EU wind sector upbeat on prospects for 2020

The European wind energy association (Ewea) has raised its prediction for installed wind generating capacity in the EU in 2020 from 180 to 230 gigawatts (EE 28/07/08). Ewea made the announcement on Monday at the start of its annual conference in Marseille.

Binding member state targets for renewable energy adopted last December (EE 09/12/08) "have increased our optimism for the sector's outlook", Ewea president Arthouros Zervos told delegates. But the new prediction will only be reached "if all the member states implement the directive swiftly and effectively", he added.
