ICT sector questions proposed 2015 emission goal

Concern is growing within Europe's information and communication technology (ICT) sector over plans announced by the European commission last week for the industry to set voluntary targets to reduce its carbon footprint (EE 12/03/09).

On Thursday, EU information society commissioner Viviane Reding reiterated her belief that the sector should "reduce its own carbon footprint by 2015 by 20 per cent". She was speaking at a commission conference on ICT for energy efficiency in Brussels.
