Plan for greener EU energy supplies announced

Brussels issues action plan to increase energy security;  policy paper on offshore wind;  measures to improve nuclear safety

The European commission has announced a series of measures to increase the security of EU energy supplies and develop greener sources of energy such as wind power as part of a policy package unveiled on Thursday.

The measures are contained in an action plan on energy security and solidarity released on Thursday.  The action plan is one of the main components of the commission's second strategic energy review.  It puts an emphasis on infrastructure investments and identifies six priority areas for developing energy networks.
