Climate negotiators urged to focus on ecosystems

A new climate policy framework to be agreed by governments in Copenhagen in December must recognise ecosystems' significant potential for managing carbon, the UN environment programme (UNEP) said in a report released on Friday.

The report's release was timed to coincide with World Environment Day and ongoing UN climate talks in Bonn. Increasing investments in the conservation, rehabilitation, and management of key ecosystems could deliver large emission reductions, UNEP says.
