MEPs back deal with governments on truck pollution

Tougher limits on pollution from trucks, lorries and buses will take effect from 2013 under an EU deal on new Euro VI emission standards. The deal was approved by the European parliament on Tuesday.

MEPs and government negotiators assembled the compromise deal in early November. The new Euro VI regulation will enter force after rubber-stamping by ministers. It will have direct effect and will not require transposition into national law by the 27 EU states.
