The Swedish EU presidency has proposed draft criteria for agreeing new restrictions on hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment, as part of ongoing discussions between EU governments on revising the EU's RoHS directive.
The European Commission originally proposed that new substance bans should be agreed "in line with" a methodology established under the EU's REACH chemicals regulation. But it said that detailed rules on how this would work in practice should be set later through the EU's comitology procedure.
