Energy emissions could fall by 3% this year: IEA

The economic slowdown could cause carbon dioxide emissions from the energy sector to fall by as much as 3% in 2009, according to a new report by the International Energy Agency (IEA). Such a decrease would be the steepest in 40 years, it says.

The new figures have led the IEA to revise its baseline emissions projections, saying the current trajectory with no additional action would lead to emissions in 2020 being 5% lower than predicted last year.
