Uncertainties remain over ETS auctioning in 2011

The European Commission is still unsure how many carbon allowances member states should sell to companies covered by the EU emission trading scheme (ETS) in 2011-12, and exactly when auctions will start.

Commission officials presented their views at a meeting in Brussels last week to present the results of a stakeholder consultation on a new auctioning regulation. The regulation, required by the ETS directive, will be drafted by the commission and sent to member states by the end of the year for approval.
