EU still on track to meet packaging recycling target

Only Spain and Finland did not meet an EU target to recycle 55% of packaging waste in 2007, according to official EU packaging waste recycling data for that year published by Eurostat last week. The compliance deadline is December 2008.

An analysis of 2006 data published in March by trade association Europen has shown almost all of the 13 countries subject to the 2008 deadline were already compliant the previous year. Eurostat data for 2007 shows Belgium has the highest recycling rate at around 80%.
