Sales of heat pump systems in the EU increased by 9.5% to 112,157 last year following a slight drop between 2006 and 2007 mainly because of the property slump, according to figures released by renewable energy consortium Eurobserver this week.
The consortium paints a mixed picture across Europe. The Swedish, Irish and Estonian markets have contracted while the German, British, Finnish and Dutch markets are growing steadily. At EU level, growth rates are expected to stay at around 10% in 2009 and 2010.
