Imaging industry told to go further on efficiency

Manufacturers of imaging equipment such as printers must strengthen a draft voluntary agreement to improve the environmental performance of their products if they want to avoid binding EU requirements on ecodesign, the European Commission has said.

The proposed target for the share of imaging equipment meeting the latest energy efficiency standards must be more stringent, an official told ENDS. The manufacturers propose that half of products placed on the market should meet the latest Energy Star standards by January 2011.
