EU tightens limits on PPD and PTD in hair dyes

More stringent limits on the use of chemicals PPD and PTD in hair dyes will apply from 15 July 2010 to reduce the risk of skin allergies among consumers, according to new EU rules published in the official journal on Tuesday.

Member states must transpose the directive into national law by 15 April next year. Maximum concentration limits will be lowered to the levels deemed safe in safety files submitted by the cosmetic industry as part of an ongoing impact assessment.
