EEA maps noise exposure levels across Europe

About half the European population in urban areas with more than 250,000 inhabitants endure day time road noise levels exceeding 55 decibels (dB), according to data published by the European Environment Agency (EEA) on Monday.

Most of these citizens are exposed to levels between 55 and 64dB. The agency issued a map of noise exposure levels across Europe, based on data submitted by member states as part of reporting requirements under the 2002 environmental noise directive.
