Europe will have to take strategic decisions soon to get on to the right path to a low carbon economy, according to a report issued on Friday. The next European Commission will have a crucial role to play in formulating a strategy.
The report, published by Dutch environment agency PBL, shows the EU will have to rethink its policy in areas such as transport and land use. Affordability will be a key issue, the authors say. "With strained government budgets, cost-effective policies are required more than ever".
