Industry seeks clarity on sectoral emissions cuts

There is still "enormous confusion" over sectoral approaches to cutting greenhouse gas emissions, with many developing countries opposing them for fear that they will lead to back-door emission caps, according to the WBSCD's Cement Sustainability Initiative (CSI).

Howard Klee, director of the CSI, says his team has stopped work on sectoral approaches to wait and see what world governments will say about them in Copenhagen in December. The CSI has been pushing nationally-tailored sectoral approaches as a way of engaging developing countries and substantially reducing global emissions.
