Commission seeks to allay MEPs' nano concerns

The European Commission will continue reviewing all EU legislation relevant to nanotechnology to ensure that products using nanomaterials pose no health, environmental or safety threats, according to a policy paper published last week.

The EU executive says it is considering or has already introduced new provisions on nanomaterials in EU laws on cosmetics, novel foods and food additives. In April the European Parliament called on the commission to "nano-proof" all relevant EU legislation within two years.
