Italy’s wind energy industry hit by new arrests

Four people were arrested and another 11 charged on Tuesday for alleged fraud in securing public funding for their wind farms in Italy. Eight arrests for wind farm-related offences were made in Sicily earlier this year.

The alleged fraudsters include the chairman of Italy’s wind energy association (ANEV), Oreste Vigorito. Prosecutors say false claims were made to maximise the public funding that seven wind farms in Avellino, near Naples, were able to claim.
