EU waste prevention guidelines close to adoption

The European Commission is finalising guidelines for drawing up national waste prevention programmes, an official said on Monday. The guidelines will be published next year. Member states must draw up such plans by December 2013.

The official was speaking at a press event in Brussels to unveil a new European initiative to promote waste prevention activities by public authorities, businesses and households. The first European Week for Waste Reduction will be launched next week.
