States opposed to annual fees for biocide approvals

There is widespread opposition from member states to a European Commission proposal to charge annual fees for certain biocide approvals, ENDS learnt at a conference in Vienna on Monday. The proposal is as part of a revision of EU biocide rules.

The fees would be paid by companies to the European Chemicals agency and member states for authorisations at EU-level. The commission wants to introduce a European-wide authorisation procedure for certain biocidal products.
