Regulators urged to ease smart grid investments

National energy regulators must change the rules applied to local electricity distributors to encourage investments in smart grids, power sector representatives said at a conference in Brussels on Thursday.

"The current financing model for DSOs (Distribution System Operators) being applied by the national regulators, traditionally geared to simply driving down costs, is not sustainable," electricity association Eurelectric's secretary general Hans ten Berge said.
