Geothermal wants recognition in renewable plans

The forthcoming national action plans on renewable energy should include measures to support the European geothermal industry, the sector's trade association said on Thursday. The call was made at the Geopower Europe conference in Germany.

The European Geothermal Energy Council says the sector can provide 39 and six gigawatts of installed capacity for heating and electricity respectively by 2020. The association calls for a "European risk assurance" scheme to deal with drilling risks.
