German utility RWE misreported* 70 million tonnes of CO2 emissions in the Carbon Disclosure Project's 2009 report, environmental data company Trucost said on Wednesday. The amount is equal to the annual GHG emissions of Denmark.
The mistake was the result of a classification error, according to Trucost. RWE classified electricity purchased for reselling to customers in the wrong scope of the GHG protocol, the method most commonly used by firms for CO2 reporting.
