More member states support binding biomass rules

Energy ministers from the UK and Poland backed a call from their Benelux counterparts on Monday for harmonised and binding EU sustainability criteria for biomass used as an energy source.

London and Warsaw confirmed their support for binding green biomass criteria at a meeting of EU energy ministers in Brussels. The European Commission is expected to table proposals on the issue in the coming weeks, but is thought to oppose the idea of legally binding criteria.
