The European Commission has approved the allocation of over €1.5bn to a series of carbon capture and storage (CCS) and offshore wind projects, as part of a €3.9bn European economic recovery package for the energy sector.
Six CCS projects in Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, the UK and the Netherlands will receive grants totalling €1bn. The commission says the funding "recognises the continued importance of fossil fuelled power" in the EU.
