Binding biomass criteria not needed, says industry

There is no need to adopt binding sustainability criteria for biomass use in the EU, European trade associations for the biomass, forestry and biogas sectors said on Monday. Environmental risks are very low, the industry groups pointed out.

The groups welcomed news reports the European Commission will not recommend binding criteria, saying it is a sensible approach given biomass is produced in a sustainable way and only less than 5% comes from imports.
