The European Commission's environment department must continue to deal with key environmental issues such as industrial pollution and biocides, a group of ten NGOs has said. The commission plans to move these policy portfolios to its new climate department.
The NGOs fear plans to reshuffle the commission under José Manuel Barroso's second mandate as president will lead to a significant weakening of DG environment. Greenhouse gases are only one of many aspects of industrial emissions, they argue.
