EU risks missing efficiency goal, report warns

Policies put in place since the adoption of the EU's 2006 energy efficiency action plan are failing to deliver the savings needed to meet Europe's 20% goal for 2020, a report published by the European Climate Foundation (ECF) on Wednesday has warned.

The report, commissioned by ECF and the Regulatory Assistance Project, finds that despite the 2008 economic recession and existing efficiency and renewable energy policies Europe will still have to save 208 million tonnes of oil equivalent.
