European Commission raises doubts over 7EAP

Two senior European Commission officials have questioned the need for a new, seventh EU environmental action programme (7EAP) when the existing one expires in 2012. The officials were speaking at a conference in Brussels on Friday.

"Times today are very different from when the previous EAP was adopted [in 2002]," environment commissioner Janez Potocnik's head of cabinet Kurt Vandenberge told the annual conference of green group the European Environmental Bureau (EEB).
