Certified wood fibre use falls for drink packaging

The use of certified or controlled wood fibres by the three largest beverage carton manufacturers fell from 77% in 2008 to 52% in 2009, according to independent verifier ProForest. But the drop is due to a reporting error, it says.

A supplier with a valid chain of custody certificate failed to comply with new reporting requirements for FSC controlled wood, which means any purchase from this supplier could not be counted. Better results are expected next year.
