Bid to block German nuclear life extension

The EU executive must investigate a German government decision to extend the lifespan of Germany's 17 nuclear power plants, Green MEPs said on Thursday. They are trying to block the decision, announced in September, on competition grounds.

An analysis of the decision raises serious questions over its legality as it "clearly favours the four nuclear-producing energy utilities involved […] at the expense of other operators," said Luxembourger MEP Claude Turmes.
