Big retailers slammed over SVHC disclosure

Only 22% of large retailers in Europe met new legal requirements to inform consumers about substances of very high concern (SVHC) in their products, according to compliance checks carried out by green group EEB earlier this year.

Under the EU's REACH regulation, companies are obliged to provide information about any SVHC substances contained in their products in concentrations above 0.1% within 45 days of a request. More than 150 information requests were sent by EEB to European retailers between April and August 2010.
