The EU should have a single piece of legislation dealing with offshore oil and gas activities to plug holes in its patchy safety regime, strengthen licensing standards and roll out best practices, the European Commission said in a policy paper on Wednesday.
The paper, announced several months ago, outlines proposals to overhaul rules applying to the offshore oil and gas industry. This sector is mainly regulated under national law, with licensing and safety rules varying greatly across the EU.
