Industry emissions 'could drop 80% by 2050'

Technologies expected to be deployed in coming years could reduce CO2 emissions from industry significantly, according to a report by Dutch institute CE Delft for Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe, unveiled in Brussels on Wednesday.

The report looks at the potential for reducing CO2 by 2050 in three sectors: steel, paper and cement. In the steel sector, new technologies could cut CO2 by up to 80%. In the other two sectors, emissions could be reduced by at least 80%, say the authors.
