Vitoria-Gasteiz, Nantes win green capital award

Basque city of Vitoria-Gasteiz in Spain and Nantes in western France have won the European green capital award for 2012 and 2013. The award was presented by environment commissioner Janez Potocnik in Stockholm on Thursday.

Vitoria-Gasteiz was rewarded for progress made in greening its urban environment and for improvements introduced in water management. Nantes, the sixth largest city in France, has implemented a sustainable transport policy which substantially contributed to reducing air pollution and emissions.
