Member states agree on revised ecolabel criteria

A committee of member states meeting in Brussels on Thursday has agreed on revised criteria for awarding the EU's ecolabel to copying and graphic paper, PCs and laptops and lighting equipment. The criteria must now be adopted by the EU executive.

The committee agreed to strengthen the requirement for fibres in the copying and graphic paper product group. All virgin fibres must be certified by green forest schemes. Half of fibres must come from sustainably managed forests. This is because not all certified wood fibres come from such sources.
