Commission consults on nanomaterial definition

The European Commission is consulting on a draft definition of nanomaterials following a European Parliament request for a "comprehensive science-based definition" in April. The consultation, launched last week, will run until 19 November.

Based on an opinion from the Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks (SCENIHR), the EU executive says a nanomaterial is a material that meets at least one of the three following criteria:
