Spain reins in biofuel growth in next three years

The share of biodiesel and bioethanol in Spanish road transport fuels will grow much more slowly under a proposed new three-year target published by the industry ministry last Friday. The target will be adopted by the government in coming months.

The ministry wants to set a target of 5.9% in 2011, rising to 6.1% in 2013. The increase is described as "prudent" and designed to "ensure that consumers with older vehicles can find fuel in the market". The biofuels target had previously increased much faster, rising from 1.9% in 2008 to 5.83% in 2010.
