The EU manufacturing sector must speed up its transition to a low-carbon and resource efficient economy, the European Commission said on Thursday as it unveiled a new industrial policy to deal with "intensifying globalisation".
The commission proposes a fresh approach to industrial policy, with close links between environmental and competitiveness issues. "There will be no sustainability without competitiveness, and there will be no long-lasting competitiveness without sustainability," said competition commissioner Antonio Tajani.
