Doris Leuthard, the new Swiss environment minister, on Thursday unveiled a plan to enable the country to regain “a world-class position” in green technologies by 2020. In the past decade, Switzerland has fallen behind other countries in this sector, she admitted.
The “Cleantech Masterplan” is designed to help Switzerland “reduce its resource consumption to naturally sustainable levels” by 2020, Ms Leuthard said. Efforts should be focused on research and development of technologies that deal with climate issues, resource management and saving energy. The plan includes 50 recommendations and measures for the federal government and the Swiss states.
