EU nuclear waste plan comes under attack

Environmentalists attacked EU proposals to encourage construction of permanent storage facilities for long-lived radioactive waste at a conference in Brussels yesterday.

Organised by EU nuclear power association Foratom with the European Economic and Social Committee, the event was billed as exploring ways to improve “public acceptance”. Last week the European Commission tabled a draft directive on radioactive waste management.
