Member states weaken EU van CO2 targets

By 2020, carbon dioxide emissions from vans and other light commercial vehicles should be limited to 155 grams per kilometre, member states agreed in a common position adopted on Friday, significantly higher than recommended by the European Commission.

The EU executive proposed limiting van emissions to 135g/km, about one-third below the average level in 2007. The European Parliament's environment committee called for a softening of the target, but only to 140g/km.
