A revised German proposal on carbon capture and storage (CCS), now expected to be finalised by the end of the month, must be further postponed because it does not sufficiently tackle environmental risks posed by the technology, says NGO BUND.
The green group is particularly concerned about risks to groundwater. The proposal revised by the German government following heavy protests from regional states and environmentalists remains far from satisfactory, it says. BUND also questions methods currently used to assess whether a storage site is leakproof.
