Future EU budget 'must scrap harmful subsidies'

The EU's next multi-annual budget for the period 2014-20 must eliminate environmentally harmful subsidies, a coalition of seven green groups said in a report last week. The report makes a series of recommendations for greening the budget.

For example, transport funding should only be given to projects that reduce greenhouse gases and promote green infrastructures, say the NGOs. And the European Commission's LIFE programme should make up at least 1% of the budget.
