Swiss to miss Kyoto carbon target, says agency

If current trends continue Switzerland will exceed its Kyoto target of 48.6 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year in the period 2008-12 by 0.8Mt, according to estimates released by Swiss environment agency BAFU on Friday.

This is due to the good health of the Swiss economy, with is predicted to grow by 2.7% in 2010 instead of -0.4% as previously anticipated. This follows better than expected figures for 2009, with a 1.4% decline instead of a -2.8% forecast.
