The International Organisation for Standardisation's social responsibility standard launched on 1 November, ISO 26000, may not be used for certification unlike the ISO 14001 for environmental management, the international body said this week.
ISO 26000 is only a voluntary guidance standard, it said, adding the move was a preventative action aimed at clarifying how its new standard may be used. The body is unaware of any company that had offered certification to the standard.
