Corporate giants make HFC and forest pledges

A group of 400 companies including Coca-Cola, Unilever and Carrefour has agreed to begin phasing out the use of hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerants from 2015. The announcement was made on Monday, the first day of the Cancún climate talks.

"This is an extremely important first step, and will pave the way for major changes across the industry," said Amy Larkin of Greenpeace. "We expect each of these companies to set forth a timeline by 2015 for complete phase-out of HFCs."
