Guidelines on industrial pollution setting out best available techniques (BAT) for different sectors should be more concise, according to a draft document on their development and revision discussed at meeting of experts on 8 March.
The guidelines, known as BREF documents, cover industrial sectors such as glass manufacturing, iron and steel, cement and large combustion plants. Experts are now updating the guidance on how to structure them to bring it into line with the industrial emissions directive (IED) agreed last year.
