US expects no progress on Durban roadmap

The EU's hope of seeing a roadmap towards a globally binding climate deal adopted in Durban is unrealistic, a US negotiator said on Friday. But Europe continues to push for this and says its views are gaining traction.

US officials might in theory agree to take on legally binding targets from 2020 as the EU wants but only if emerging nations such as China and India do the same, negotiator Jonathan Pershing said in a briefing.
